One fun fact is that you can explore the entire country in one day! Of course, it would be best if you didn’t do that so you can save some of the fun for the rest of your vacation.

It Has Two Cultures

Despite the size of this country, there are two major backgrounds. The locals on St Kitts island are referred to as Kittitians, and those on Nevis are Nevisians.

Both cultures have warm and welcoming people. You don’t have to worry about getting lost as the people are always ready to help you find your way around. The hospitality of the people may inspire you to get second citizenship in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Volcanic Formation

St Kitts and Nevis islands are mostly a result of two volcanos. St Kitts is from Mount Liamuiga, while Nevis island is from Nevis peak.

You don’t have to worry about any eruptions happenings. Both of the island’s volcanoes are now dormant, with the last reported eruption over 1,800 years ago. Nevertheless, the beauty of these volcanic formations is still noteworthy, especially for those who love nature.

Interesting History

One of this country’s most outstanding histories is its name’s origin. The name St Kitts is said to have come from Christopher Columbus.

In its earliest days, St. Kitts was known as Liamuiga, which means “fertile land.” The name Kitts is from Christopher Columbus’ nickname Kits.

“Our Lady of the Snows,” or “Nuestra Señora de Las Nieves,” was the Spanish name given to Nevis. The name was given because the white clouds floating above the volcano top of Nevis looked like snow.

It is also historically known as ‘The Mother Colony.’ This is because it was the first country occupied by the British and the French in the West Indies

Sugarcane Plantation

St Kitts was nicknamed ‘sugar city’ because it was part of the sugar trade. Sugar cane is still widely grown throughout the country but is no longer cultivated commercially.

Swimming from St Kitts to Nevis Is Possible

A sea separates St Kitts, and Nevis called the ‘narrows.’ This sea is only 2 miles long and takes only 5 minutes between them in a water taxi.

Every year there is a swimming event held in Saint Kitts and Nevis. People come from different parts of the world to partake in swimming the Narrows from Nevis to St Kitts.
