Kansas City loves its coffee, and not just any coffee. Forget about Starbucks on every corner. We have amazing local coffee shops that each bring something special. Let me walk you through some of the best places to grab a latte that’s not just good, but great!

1. The Roasterie

This place is a coffee lover’s dream. They started in 1993 and have a cool airplane logo. The Roasterie is famous because they roast their own coffee beans. You might have seen their big building with an airplane on top in the Crossroads area. They make lots of different coffee types and even supply special blends to local restaurants. They offer free tours where you can learn about coffee roasting. You can visit them in Brookside, their factory cafe, or in Leawood.

2. Coffee Girls

Just a short walk from the nightlife in Waldo, this cozy spot offers more than coffee. Sure, they have a great espresso bar, but you can also find fresh juices, smoothies, and tasty treats from local bakers. It’s a perfect stop for a morning boost or a midday treat, located a block west of 75th and Wornall. Visit their website.

3. Broadway Roasting Company & Cafe

Since 1992, Broadway Roasting Company & Cafe has been a favorite in the Westport neighborhood. Here, you can grab a coffee any day of the week and even peek at their big drum roaster that makes some of the best beans in town. It’s just a block north of their cafe.

4. Filling Station Coffee Co.

Imagine an old gas station turned into a coffee shop. That’s Filling Station Coffee Co. for you. It’s a unique spot in Union Hill where you can grab a coffee to go. They’re so popular, there’s often a crowd. They also have a drive-through in Westport for those who prefer to stay in their car.

5. The Quay Coffee (and Oddly Correct)

Near the river? Check out The Quay in the River Market area. Back in the 70s and 80s, this place was known as “The Quay.” They serve coffee from another local favorite, Oddly Correct. Their menu is simple because the coffee is just that good. No need for extra flavors or fancy add-ons.

So there you have it, my friends. Kansas City’s coffee scene is rich and full of character. Each shop has its own story and flavor. Why not explore and find your favorite?
