Choose Something You Enjoy

The first step is to choose something that you enjoy and that you are good at doing. The reason that we say this is because you’re going to be spending some of your free time doing this, and the last thing that you need is to hate it. We spend far too much of our lives working to not enjoy what we do, or at least some of what we do. So, it makes sense then that it has got to be something that you actually enjoy.

If you think about it, are there any of your hobbies that stand out as things that you could turn into a side hustle? Perhaps you’re fantastic at being creative and like to make mugs/paintings or whatever else. Or, maybe you’re more into the graphic design side of creativity and want to do something with this.

Some of the more common side hustles are gardening, dog walking, childminding and blogging. While they might be more common, that doesn’t mean that they are unavailable by any means. There are always people looking for new blogs to read and someone to take care of the tasks they don’t want to do themselves.

Work Out What Hours You’re Free

It then becomes a challenge to work out exactly when you are free to offer these services. If you work the same pattern all of the time then obviously this is going to be ideal for starting a side hustle. But, if you don’t and your hours are liable to change, then it becomes a little bit more complicated. When you are listing your services, people may get in touch with you to discuss and you need to make it clear that your hours may be subject to change, but you can fit them in X, Y or Z.

Get The Right Equipment

Depending what side hustle you have decided on, it might now be time to go and get the equipment that you need to be able to offer your service. For example, if you are going to be offering dog walking services, are you going to be using the leashes that the owners have or would you prefer to use ones you supply in case they get damaged somehow? Or, if you’re going to be offering general handyman services, you’re going to need a full toolbox, and even some fun pieces like an electric chainsaw as you never know when you’re going to need to chop up some tree trunks as part of gardening work.

Try to think of all of these things as an investment if you are struggling with the fact that you have to spend money you don’t really have before you’re making any.

Advertise Your Services

Lastly, you need to advertise your services so that people know what you are offering. You can do this by printing out flyers and posting them around your neighborhood, you can create a website and social media pages for your side hustle and so much more. The more that you can get word out about yourself, the easier it will be to bring people in.

We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the simple steps that you can take to start a side hustle in order to generate more income. For some people this is going to be easier than for others, but it’s not about how easy you find it, it’s about how much of your time you dedicate to it. As long as you are putting the effort in, you should see some decent results in the end. We wish you the very best of luck, and hope that you manage to get to this point!
