Tips on How to Spoil Yourself

Few things feel as good as treating those you love the most and making them happy. But every once in a while, we should all remember to indulge ourselves as well. After all, you can’t really pour from an empty cup! When you feel happy, it’s so much easier to share this joy with those around you. Below, six tips on how to spoil yourself (and why you should do it more often!).

Spend a day at the spa

Booking a day at the spa is definitely something to indulge in if self-care hasn’t been high on your list of priorities lately. These little luxuries make us feel so good afterwards that we wonder why we don’t do it more often. They provide the pick-me-up we all need after a long, exhausting week, and they’re cheaper than a holiday! Find the nearest spa in your area and book yourself in for a massage, a facial, and a luxurious mani-pedi. Or, browse around for some ideas on how to recreate the indulgent spa experience at home. The options are pretty much endless, so go with what feels best.

Take yourself out on a date

Many of us rely on others to have a great time, whether we’re talking about friends, family members, or partners. In reality, we should all try to spend a little time on our own doing the things we love. Whether that means heading to that Italian restaurant you’ve been eyeing for a while, seeing a live concert of the band you like, or going to the movies alone, take yourself out on a date every once in a while. Solo dates can be a great way to do the things you want without having to make plans with others. Plus, you won’t have to reschedule in case they can’t make it.

Indulge in some well-deserved retail therapy

Now, we’re not saying you should head to the mall and splurge until your bank account is empty. But a little retail therapy never hurt anyone, and it definitely won’t break the bank. Get that bag you’ve been wanting, add that pair of earrings to your jewelry collection, and try on that pair of shoes. Make this shopping trip about you – not the home, not the kids, not the other people. After all, you deserve it, so get the things you want without feeling guilty about it.

Decorate your home with some fresh flowers

This sounds pretty simple, but it’s sometimes the best way to brighten your day and transform your mood. The truth is, gifting yourself some fresh flowers is an act of love and care. And it’s really not that different from buying flowers for others. Besides, fresh flowers have that particular charm that can make any space feel cheerful and bright. On those days when you just feel like you could use a bit of indulgence, get some fresh flowers from your local florist, clean up your living space, and then decorate and admire the luscious blossoms for a week.

Ask others for help from time to time

Who would’ve thought that such a simple act can make our days infinitely better? Turns out, simply asking someone to help you out a bit can do wonders when it comes to refreshing your mind and improving your mood. The truth is, many of us feel like we should be doing everything on our own. This can create tension in our relationships and cause us to put unnecessary pressure on ourselves. Whether that means asking your family to babysit for you or getting your partner to help with household chores, take some time for yourself rather than trying to be everywhere and do everything. We all need some downtime, so remember to add that to your schedule as well.

Unplug!

Living in the digital era can make it easy for us to spend hours scrolling through our social media feeds. Rather than spending those precious hours on your phone, make it a habit to unplug from time to time. Just like we need breaks from real life and its many challenges, we also need breaks from the digital world. The good news? The latter can be as simple as going offline and putting your phone on silent. Feel free to do so whenever things start to feel overwhelming or you just find yourself becoming detached. You’ll be amazed at the results and how much free time you have all of a sudden.

Wrapping up

Making time for yourself is incredibly important, and is in no way selfish. After all, it’s these little things that keep us going. Therefore, go ahead and spoil yourself once in a while, and try to do it more often.
