After last week’s wild episode (no spoilers, no worries!), I can’t stop thinking about the upcoming Game of Thrones season 4 finale. Who’s going to die? Who’s going to bang? Who’s going to have to contend with Arya Stark’s steel blade and equally stone-cold one-liners? Will Jon Snow ever really know anything? Anyway, in order to prep, I figured this week’s collection of beautiful tattoos could be entirely about the book and televisions series that has captivated the world, resulting in parties where dozens of people at a time can go from enthralled to totally horrified in about 60 seconds flat.
There’s no shortage of tributes to Game of Thrones, but a permanent one across one’s body is a serious commitment. After last week’s compilation of literary tattoos by female authors, I figured this could be a fun–and potentially crazy–twist. Let’s take a look at (and e-high five) 25 people on Pinterest who just love this series that much.
1. “My sun and stars, the moon of my life.”
I typically hate matching or coordinating tattoos, and yet I can’t help but make an exception here for this Dothraki-language couple tattoo.
2. “The lion doesn’t concern himself with the opinions of the sheep.”
Bold move, getting a Tywin Lannister quote on you. (But what a quote it is.)
3. “Not today”
4. “The North remembers”
I strongly suspect this is not somebody you want to give reasons for grudges.
5. “The lone wolf dies, but the pack survives”
6. “All men must die, all men must serve”
In High Valyrian, “Valar morghulis, Valar dohaeris.”
7. “Not today”
Who could forget the words of Arya’s fencing instructor?
8. The Houses
This is an epic battle all on one person’s skin.
9. Daenerys Targaryen, Mother of Dragons
10. The Iron Throne
Is it weird that the most awesome thing about this to me is that nobody is sitting in it?
11. “The night is dark and full of terrors”
The night is dark and full of Melisandre (aka The Red Woman), really.
12. “Ours is the fury”
I imagine seeing this while playing sports against somebody and being terrified.
13. The three-eyed raven
This stunning raven tattoo was apparently done by Edvinas at Redcloud Tattoo in Sala, Sweden.
14. Daenerys Targaryen
This is unbelievably beautiful and reminds me of the watercolor tattoos we saw earlier this month.
15. “Fear cuts deeper than swords”
I think I know one Ramsay Snow who would agree with you (and then also use a sword).
16. “Winter is coming”
I mean, if you live in Upstate New York, winter is basically always here. Perhaps that is the secret IRL location of “the North.”
17. Game of Thrones chest piece
I love everything about this.
18. The North attacks
Conceptually, this is fantastic. Plus, the placement is beautiful.
19. Winter is coming…on your forehead?
I love all GoT tattoos, so I feel obligated to like this. I’m just not sure how I feel about the placement.
20. “Ours is the fury”
Wow, this tattoo and the woman who has it are just unreasonably beautiful. The placement, the design–it’s all so impressive.
21. The Wolf
This guy’s got so many amazing references on one arm, and I love it.
Simple and beautiful.
This is so cool and well-done, especially for such a dark black-and-grey piece.
Sometimes I wonder how Emilia Clarke feels about being all over everyone’s bodies in permanent ink. Oh well–at least these are all well done and look almost as beautiful as she actually is!
25. “Winter is coming”
Absolutely loving the bright red eyes on the wolf, as well as the font.
26. “Valar morghulis”
Both the colors and design are stunning here.
27. “Growing strong”
We love this amazing old-school GoT tattoo.
28. House of Greyjoy
Whoa. P.S. Miss ya, Theon.
29. “Valar morghulis”
This quote seems to speak to a lot of people–it was in a ton of the tattoos on Pinterest.
30. Three-eyed raven
I’ll finish you off with an image that is stunning, haunting, and intimidating–and probably important to the season 4 finale.
