The teenage age is one of the most unpredictable ages regarding skin health. Some people have flawless skin throughout puberty and even the later stages of the teenage period. However, the people that get to experience this are in the minority. The majority of teenagers have skin problems.

These problems could be hyperpigmentation, persistent acne, rashes, and so on. Taking care of these can be difficult since you have to pay attention to them non-stop.

However, you must take care of your skin to look beautiful and healthy. That said, here are eight tips for taking care of your skin as a teenager.

Understand The Skin Type You Have As a Teenager

Understanding the type of skin you have is one of the first things you need to do to have flawless skin as a teenager. You will find multiple skincare regimens and routines if you search online now. However, they don’t tell you that these skincare routines are specific to skin type. There are four main skin types; dry, oily, standard, and combination.

Dry skin isn’t smooth to touch, and it regularly gets flaky without moisturizing. Sometimes, it can get flaky even after moisturizing. Oily skin is often slippery to the touch, and people that have this skin type tend to sweat a lot. They also tend to have acne, pimples, blackheads, etc. Normal skin has tight pores and has a well-balanced oil and water texture. Combination skin is a mixture of all the skin types mentioned above. For instance, your face could have dry skin, while your limbs or torso have oily or normal skin.

Understanding your skin type and doing more research on it is one of the first steps towards having healthy skin.

Exfoliate at least once a week

Sadly, not a lot of people take exfoliation seriously. Simply put, exfoliation means removing dead skin cells from the outermost layer of your skin. It mainly involves applying some products to your skin for about five to ten minutes. While this is good for your skin, it’s not for everyone.

Before you decide to exfoliate, consult your dermatologist to understand what kind of exfoliation products to use on your skin. If your skin is sensitive and uses the wrong product on your face or skin, you would wind up with even more problems. Maintain A Healthy Diet

All the tips mentioned above won’t be helpful if you don’t maintain a healthy diet. This is because skin problems like acne tend to stem from a lack of balanced diets and an inadequate supply of nutrients. What you eat has a significant effect on your health. That said, try to search the internet and look up a diet that suits you. Stick to that plan, and monitor what you eat to determine if you have allergies to certain foods.

Always Wear Sunblock

Sunblock is one of the best parts of a skincare routine. The UV rays of the sun are not very forgiving on your skin. This is what causes hyperpigmentation and many other skin problems.

For best results, try to find sunblock with SPF 30 or higher sun protection. Also, re-apply after a few hours in the sun to fortify your protection.

Drink A Lot Of Water

Water is the last piece of the puzzle. For those who don’t know, water helps to keep your body hydrated and your skin looking flawless. Start your day with a glass of water at room temperature, and then drink about 6-8 glasses throughout the day. If you get sick of water, you can try adding things like cucumber, lemon, and even grapefruits in the water.
