Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Skincare

Skin is your largest organ, and it protects your vital organs from external elements. That said, skin quality is an indicator of overall health, but many people experience various skin conditions. Whether you have chronic acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, or another skin condition, you might benefit from sticking to a skincare regimen. If you don’t know where to start, learning a few things you probably didn’t know about skincare can help you treat your skin kindly.

Sleep Habits Impact Skin Health

It’s no secret that everyone needs sleep for proper body function, but you may not know that your skin undergoes healing and restorative processes as you sleep. With that in mind, getting at least six to eight hours of sleep every night is imperative for your skin health. If you lack sleep, you might experience more frequent breakouts and a dull complexion. On the other hand, getting adequate sleep nightly is a surefire way to boost your glow.

Sunscreen Protects Against Premature Aging

Aging is unavoidable, but premature aging isn’t—adding sunscreen to your daily skincare routine is the most effective way to prevent skin cancer, fine lines, and wrinkles. Even if you don’t spend much time outdoors, the sun can still impact your skin. Suppose you sit by a window at work or spend most of your time in a room filled with sunlight; the sun’s rays can still reach your skin.

Wear sunscreen daily, even if you won’t be outside. If you worry that sunscreen will cause breakouts, consider finding one containing zinc, as these options are usually non-comedogenic and non-irritating, making them suitable for acne-prone skin.

Exercise Can Improve Skin Health

You probably already know that regular exercise is beneficial for your physical health, but you might not know that it can also improve your skin health. When you increase your heart rate and start sweating, a few different things happen throughout your body—your blood flow increases, and toxins exit your body. These two things can increase your skin health and give you an undeniable glow.

Touching Your Skin Can Cause Breakouts

You’ve probably heard that popping and picking at pimples can cause more breakouts, but any contact with your face can cause acne. There are several acne triggers you probably haven’t considered if you’re prone to breakouts, but the truth is that anything coming in contact with your face can spread bacteria and clog your pores. Whether it be cuddling with your pet or significant other, your own hands, or contact with another surface, many different things can cause unwanted breakouts.

Hopefully, these things you probably didn’t know about skincare will help you make the best decisions when it comes to your skincare routine and other lifestyle choices. Skincare is incredibly important and goes far beyond cleansing and moisturizing—caring for your skin also includes what you consume and your exposure to the elements.
