Are you hiding your smile behind closed lips? Maybe you’re struggling to show off your teeth in photos. You’re not the only one.

In fact, over half of the adults in America feel insecure about the state of their teeth.

Learning how to whiten your teeth at home could make all the difference. You won’t have to hide your smile anymore! Instead, you can show off your stunning, pearly whites.

Start whitening your teeth at home with these five simple tips today.

How to Whiten Your Teeth at Home

1. Baking Soda

One of the easiest ways to learn how to whiten your teeth at home is by using baking soda.

Baking soda is already featured in many kinds of toothpaste that are available for consumer purchase. This mild abrasive has natural whitening properties. It can help whiten your teeth by scrubbing surface stains away.

Combine about 1 teaspoon of baking soda with 2 teaspoons of water. It should turn into a fine paste. You can brush with the paste to create an alkaline environment, keeping bacteria from growing in your mouth.

2. Oil Pulling

Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which can kill bacteria and reduce inflammation in your mouth. Minimizing bacteria can reduce the risk of plaque formation, keeping your teeth white.

You can use coconut oil to utilize the oil pulling technique. You’ll swish the oil in your mouth for about 15 minutes before spitting it out. Use about 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and swish it between your teeth.

3. Hydrogen Peroxide

As you begin to whiten your teeth at home, consider using products that contain hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is a natural bleaching ingredient.

Look for products that contain hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. You might notice your teeth are 62% whiter after using these ingredients.

4. Prevent Stains

If you want to learn how to white your teeth at home, focus on minimizing stains in the first place.

For example, you might want to consider your diet. Some foods and beverages (including coffee and wine) can dye your teeth. You’ll notice discoloration sooner than expected as a result.

If you plan on eating or drinking substances that will cause discoloration, try to brush and floss right away. You can prevent staining before it impacts the appearance of your teeth.

5. Brush and Floss

As you begin whitening your teeth at home, it’s also important to go back to the basics. Make sure you’re brushing and flossing twice a day. Otherwise, bacteria will continue to grow and spread.

Bacteria can lead to plaque formation, which could cause your teeth to look discolored.

Plaque can harden into tartar, which you’ll need a dentist to remove.

Make sure you’re scheduling appointments with your local dentist twice a year as well. You can talk to your dentist about how often to whiten teeth.
