How to Wear a Short Straight Hairstyle

The only Shampoo is Needed on Short Straight Hair

The first step that we are going to take with his hair is we are going to shampoo it. With this hair generally you can any use any kind of shampoo; hydrating, straightening, moisturizing, generally anything. After shampooing Min’s hair, we do not use any conditioner. His hair is very, very straight and very short, so conditioner is not necessarily needed.

Use Texturizer to Give Short Straight Hair Added Shape

So I went ahead, and I towel dried Min’s hair. And with his hair, a challenge is, the sides have really straight hair, they are short, they tend to stick out, so keeping the hair at a shorter length is the best way to go. We are going to use a texturizer in his hair, and we are going to use about a quarter size of an amount. We are going to rub it throughout our hands, and we are generally going to start on the top, just gently spreading it from one side to the other, forward and straight.

Briefly Blow Dry to AddVolume to Short Straight Hair

Lastly, with this type of hair, there are many things you can do. You can bring all the hair back with the texture paste and blow dry the hair on a warm heat to get the hair to have more volume up top. With shorter hair, a lot of blow drying time is not necessary. So just gently taking your fingertips, separating the pieces of where you want the volume in the front.

Another helpful hint is using a nice top serum coat in the hair to give it more of a shine look instead of a textured matted look. This adds a lot more shine and glow to the hair, makes the hair look a lot softer and flatter. And that is how you can complete short straight hair.

Use Wash and Go Method for Short Wavy Hair

With short wavy hair, I would use a softening shampoo. Redken has a softening shampoo, or another alternative is a hydrating shampoo that you can find at local stores or beauty salons. On Rick’s hair, we just got done shampooing his hair with a hydrating shampoo. We are going to go through and towel dry his hair. So this is a wash and go style, we are not going to be using any kind of blow dryer or heating tools.

Apply Texturizer to Short Wavy Hair After Towel Drying

So after towel drying Rick’s hair, I am going to go ahead and use a nice softening paste, about a dime-sized of an amount in Rick’s hair. We are going to put it through our hands like a lotion, and we are going to work from forcing the hair forward and then backward, down to the side and to the other side.

With Your Hands, Flatten or Add Volume to the Wavy Hair

If you have a hairline like Rick’s the best way to separate wavy hair is to more or less pull the front a little bit forward, bring the top down, and the side down as well. So this is going to be your focal point of the haircut, and this is going to tame the wave in the hair.

Another option for short wavy hair, instead of having it straighter and flatter on top, calming down that wave, work with the wave, bring the hair forward using that wave to create some volume on top. Wave is controlled on the sides and on the back with some volume on top. And that is how you style short wavy hair.

Use A Hydrating Shampoo for Short Curly Hair

The first step that you want to take in men’s styling is you want to use a nice hydrating shampoo. And the hydrating shampoo is going to create more of a shiny look in the hair to separate the curl. And you want to use the hydrating conditioner to soften up the hair. Especially if you have a little bit gray hair, what it does is it softens it up to create some texture in the hair.

Add Texturizer While the Curly Hair is Wet

So Bill, with your hair, after your shampoo and condition your hair, when your hair is still wet, you want to use a fiber in your hair, that is not only a wax, but it’s a softer gel. Wax is harder; the gel is a little bit softer, so it’s in between. What I am going to do is when it’s wet I am going to comb it through with the comb to make sure your hair is evenly dispersed with the water, and then I am going to take about a pea size amount of the texturizer, which is the fiber. Rub it in my hands like lotion and spread it out evenly, combing the hair back with your fingertips. Make sure you get those sideburns too because they get really curly if you don’t have any product in there.

Allow Curly Hair to Dry before Softly Combing

And about ten minutes later after you comb it and put it through your hair. After the ten minutes is up, it’s going to be air dried, nice and soft now, but with that texturizer, in there it’s going to be tamer. I would take a soft bristle brush, and I would just softly comb through your hair to give it that soft look, where it doesn’t look like it’s wet, nor too dry.

Bill, another option is, if you don’t let it air dry for ten minutes if you take a blow dryer and softly dry it, so it puts more action into it. Just gently hold your hand above the top of your hair, not putting too much pressure on, and blow dry the surface of your hair. The natural oils on your hair will be taming the gray and the curl, creating that soft look. After completing the blow dry, I would take a soft bristle brush and comb through the hair softly, getting that matte wet look out of there and creating a soft look. And there you have it, for short curly men’s hair.

Choose Your Preferred Shampoo for Medium Straight Hair

With straight medium length hair, you can use any kind of shampoo you desire. If you are looking for more volume in your hair, you can use a volumizing shampoo or a hydrating shampoo, just to keep your hair on the right pH balance for moisture. On medium straight hair like Jesse’s, it’s medium straight hair, but it’s a little bit shorter around the perimeter of his hairline and longer up top. So this is a great hairstyle to use a blow dryer with or not use a blow dryer. Today we’re going to use a blow dryer on his hair.

Distribute Hair Product Evenly Throughout Medium Length Hair

The kind of product I am going to be using is Capital Force Kerastase. It’s a light hold gel. So any kind of light hold gel is great. I am going to put a little bit more than a quarter size of an amount in my hand, rub it around, and I am going to work from the perimeter of his hair to the top of his hair. I am going to move the hair forward around the hairline, on the sides, and on the back, all the way around. I am then going to take the hair on the top of the head and move the hair from side to side. I am distributing the product throughout his hair evenly. Lastly, when putting that product through his hair, I am going to move the hair forward and up, creating volume and a look.

Blow Dry in the Direction the Hair Grows

I am going to use my blow dryer, making sure I use the gel to move his hair forward, which is going with the way that his hair grows. And then pulling his hair backward and blow-drying his hair, blow drying some length on top, and going with the way his hair is cut forward.

Use Oil to Create Soft Texture in Straight Hair

After blow-drying Jesse’s hair, I am going to put some shine oil in his hair. This is Surface Baba Oil. Any kind of serum is great to use on the hair. This is a top finishing coat instead of some hairspray, and you are going to rub it through your hands, and you are going to see a shine. I am going to use it on his hair, moving forward and back around his hairline, and lastly on top. Now, with an oil you can create more of a texture in your hair, it’s just more of a softer texture within your hair. And that is how you style medium straight hair.

A Curly Hair Style Starts with the Right Shampoo

So Michael, what I am going to use on you today is the Kerastase Bain OlÈo-Curl, and what that does is that forms a memory to your curl, creating frizz to decrease 90%. Another suggestion for a shampoo would be using a curl defining shampoo that has some moisture. After shampooing you want to make sure that you use conditioner in the hair. Using the conditioner is going to prevent frizz.

Prevent Frizz and Define Curls in Hair with the Right Product

Michael, what we are going to be using on you today is the OlÈo-Curl. This is a softening cream for your hair. It’s not a wax or a gel, it’s a cream. It has some hold in it, but basically, it has a lot of moisture. So what this is going to do is this is going to form a memory in your hair for the curl, creating it to be softer, not hard, or wet looking, or not too frizzy.

So applying this, you want to apply it on your hairline because with curly hair, this is where your most frizz is going to come. And it’s safe to use a little bit too much product, about two-quarter size of amounts in the hair. Secondly, you want to comb it through the hair to make sure it works through all of the hair. You want to get rid of a tiny bit of that product to start forming the curl in your hair, to form some volume up near the scalp, pushing the hair forward behind the ears, and back at the top.

Shape Curly Hair by Coiling Locks with Your Finger

You can leave wet your hair like this, let it air dry for about 15 minutes, run your hands through it. Or what you can do is take some hair spray and spray gently over the hair, take your finger, coil the hair, wrap it around your finger, and let it loose. So forming these coiled curls around your finger create height at the root and curl at the end.

And that is how you style medium length curly hair.

Use Moisturizing Shampoo for Curly Hair

With casual curly hair, it’s very important to use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. At times it’s good to use a strengthening shampoo and conditioner about once a month because with curly hair it’s the weakest hair type that human has.

After shampooing with the intense shampoo and the intense conditioner you want to go through the hair, and this is a tip that I learned, comb sometimes gets stuck at the end of the curls because they do tend to get dry. Using a natural soft brush go ahead and go through the hair make sure you get the hairline as well. After combing through the hair, towel dries your hair from roots to end.

For Added Moisture, Use a Heavy Texturizer in Curly Hair

I am going to take a curl enhancing cream and with this cream, this is going to help weigh down the curl, so it doesn’t spring up and become too much of volume. I am going to take about two-quarter size of an amount into his hair and start form the ends to the roots. As I bring it to the top of the head I am going to bring it to the sides, and really hydrate the front baby hairpieces of the hair. I’m going to take the towel and scrunch his hair once again, really squeezing that product into his hair. Now as I take the towel, I am starting to form the side part of where I want the hair to fall.

I am going to take a texturizer, this is a fiber, it’s not a wax or a gel, it’s in between. I am going to use it about a dime size in the amount in my hand. With it being longer the ends tend to spread out, so this is going to keep it nice and soft. Curly hair likes to separate so you want to keep it all together by scrunching it together.

Towel Dry, Don’t Blow Dry, Curly Hair

Another tip for casual loose curly hair; if you are not wanting to leave the house with so much moisture in the hair, don’t ever put a blow dry to the hair, take a towel with your hands and scrunch the moisture out. Another factor that comes into loose curly hair is trimmings you need very regularly because what happens is this hair type becomes very dry, so I would say approximately every six weeks trying to get those ends about half an inch taken off.

So with this type of hair, make sure you put your products in, use the right moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, a heavier kind of texturizer in the hair, towel dry it through to push it through the hair, and you are all set to go.

Soften and Moisturize Wavy Hair with the Right Shampoo

What I’m going to do for shampooing is we’re going to use a moisturizing shampoo. This is going to hydrate his hair and helps soften the curls. For Marco’s hair, we’re going to use a light conditioner, not too heavy. We don’t want his roots to be too oily from the conditioner, but we want the ends to have a little bit of moisture on them so they don’t frizz up.

Give Wavy Hair Volume with Mousse

With Marco after using the hydrating shampoo and the light conditioner, which the light conditioner is really good because you don’t want your roots to be too oily with wavy hair, because you want to have a little volume on top of your scalp. So what we’re going to use is we’re going to use a little bit of Mousse Forte, it’s a stronger hold mousse. Any kind of mousse is good. Try to get the stronger hold mousse.

So you want to shake it up, spread in your hand, like two snowball effects big. You’re going to rub it in your hand almost like a lotion, you’re going to take it and you’re going to start at the top because what mousse does is it absorbs the oil on your scalp to create more volume on top, starting in the front and working back. After that you want to take a brush and brush through the product.

Shape Your Hairline to Style Wavy Hair – Hairstyling Videos

With Marco’s hairline, I’m going to create more of an offset hairline, not right down the middle. So what we’re going to do is we’re going to carve start a wave in the beginning of his hair, and same with the other side. And what this wave does is having loose curly wavy hair as it starts to form uniform look in front, creating a more wave on top. Since it isn’t longer, it starts to become straighter when it dries. So when you dry with the shape around the face, you’re going to get more of a wave up here, and not just down here.

Blow Dry Wavy Hair On Low Heat

I am then going to take the blow dry on low heat and start to blow dry the top, lifting the back up higher to create some volume. When blow drying with longer wavy hair, you want to place your hand on the hair, keeping it in one motion as you blow dry the water out of it. Pinching at the front of the forehead, lifting the hair higher that is a great way to blow-dry your waving hair.

Use Hair Product to Hold Waves in Place

After blow-dry Marco’s hair, I use the micro-fiber web which is not a gel, but not a wax; it’s in between. This separates, it look like a web. With using the microfiber web, what it does is it separates the hair. Because of the length that it’s so long, it tends to pull some of the wave out of the hair. I’m using this micro-fiber to create more of the height up top and hold, and also scrunching the bottom of his hair to create more of a uniformed curl and that is the way to style long loose wavy hair.
