The buzzcut is an ultra-low maintenance haircut that is, in my opinion, one of the best options for men. In addition to being incredibly easy to maintain, the buzzcut also requires less product and can even be done at home so that it can save you time and money. Following are my reasons why the buzzcut it one of the best men’s haircuts ever.

Buzzcuts are Easy

The basic buzzcut is done using clippers all over the head. Done properly, a buzzcut will be tapered around the sides and back to provide a cleaner look and allow it to grow out neatly. This type of haircut can be done very easily and quickly by a professional barber, but you can also buzz your head at home with a low degree of difficulty at home.

Buzzcuts are Cheap

Because the buzzcut is such a simple haircut, it can be done by a barber (who will typically charge less than salon) or, for those with a good eye and a steady hand, the buzzcut can be done at home. Because of the very short nature of this haircut, no styling product is required (except, perhaps, a bit of sunscreen when you are outdoors), so you won’t have to spend a great deal on a product. The buzzcut is a great way to save on grooming.

Buzzcuts are Quick

In addition to being a quick haircut to perform, the buzzcut requires no time styling, so you can simply jump out of the shower and run. It really is the simplest of all men’s haircuts. The buzzcut can also be done fairly quickly in a barbershop, so you won’t spend an hour sitting around while a stylist snips away.

Buzzcuts are Manly

Next, to a shaved head, there isn’t a haircut that is much more no-nonsense and masculine than the buzzcut. It sends the message that “I’m a guy and I have more important things to worry about than messing with my hair.” The buzzcut can also really make great eyes “pop” as the lack of hair draws focus down to the face.

Buzzcuts Look Good on Most Men

Unless you have a very round face or oddly shaped head, a buzzcut will most likely look good on you (a good barber can shape a buzzcut, so it frames almost any face well). While this type of haircut is great for those in the military of for active and athletic men, I think the buzzcut, when paired with a clean shave and a sharp suit looks great in business environments.

Buzzcuts are Cool

Especially in summer months, the absence of hair on your head will allow your scalp to get increased air flow. A great deal of heat escapes through your scalp and the back of your neck, so the buzzcut will actually keep you cooler, making it the perfect summer haircut.

Buzzcuts Work Well in Winter

Huh? A buzzcut in the winter? Are you crazy? Not at all. Think about it — in winter, you are likely wearing some sort of hat for warmth (especially if you live in an area with harsh winters). What happens when you take the hat off? Your hair is a mess. This is not the case with the buzzcut — your hair will look great even if your head has been hiding under a hat or helmet for hours. Even in the winter, there are reasons for buzzing your head that make sense.

Buzzcuts Make Balding Less Noticeable

For guys who are thinning on top, the buzzcut can minimize the look of baldness when the hair is taken so short on the sides and back you begin to see some scalp exposure. The tight sides which show scalp will provide balance to the thinner top where you also see scalp. A Buzzcut is a great option if you are losing your hair.

Buzzcuts are Versatile

The simplest form of buzzcut is a one-length all over option, but there are many variations of the buzzcut that will work for most any face shape. Variations include the flattop (a buzzcut with a square top), the crew cut or brush cut (a buzz with a longer front which is worn up), the burr (an ultra-short one-length-all-over style), the high and tight (buzzed short on top and shaved high and tight on the sides and back), among others.
