Are you interested in experimenting with makeup to get that ‘wow’ look? Or are you just wondering what products you need to get that every-day radiant look?

There are so many different types of makeup that it can be overwhelming trying to figure out what you need, where you’re supposed to use it, and the best way to apply it.

If you’re looking to dive into the world of makeup and update your vanity kit, check out these common kinds of makeup that every girl should have.

What Are the Most Common Types of Makeup?

Eye Makeup Types

Eyes are often the focal point of the face. You can choose to wear subtle eye makeup that simply highlights your natural eye shape, working to give an enlarged visual impression. Or, go full-on glitz and glam with bright colors and eyebrows that are ‘on-fleek.’

Whichever look you decide on, these are the most common kinds of makeup for your eyes.

Mascara

Mascara is a dark liquid, usually black or dark brown in color, that you use on your eyelashes to get a fuller, longer look.

Your eyelashes look darker, thicker, and are visually extended, highlighting the eye. You can get waterproof mascara so that if you’re caught in the rain, or shed a few tears at a wedding, you won’t look like a raccoon.

While the most common colors are black and brown, nowadays there is a range of colors available.

Eyeshadow

Eyeshadows are essential for that sultry smokey look, and the subtle neutral look. Eyeshadow comes in a huge range of colors, from pale hues to startling greens and glittered golds.

It is applied to the eyelid and under the eyebrow to draw attention to the eyes. Remember, if you’re choosing a bold lip color, keep the eyeshadow colors light.

You’ll need to find the best makeup organizer to keep all your different eyeshadow colors organized and available.

Eyeliner

Using Kohl on the eyes is a makeup practice that has been around for centuries. Now there are plenty of eyeliner options and brands available, ranging from midnight black to vibrant purples and toned-down browns.

There is the option of liquid eyeliner, necessary for the cat-eye look, or pencil eyeliner which is easier to apply.

This is an essential makeup product. So much so that some people decide to commit to permanent makeup with tattoo eyeliner.

Eyebrow Pencil

The eyebrows are the frame of the face. Full, thick, and dark eyebrows are all the rage right now. If you haven’t been blessed with Cara Delavigne style eyebrows, then the eyebrow pencil will be your best friend.

These come in different shades of blacks and browns and you should choose the color which best matches your hair color.

Makeup Options for Your Face

How do you achieve that flawless, dewy skin free from blemishes, dark circles, and discoloration? With a bomb makeup kit that includes all the best makeup to even out your skin tone and give you a glowing look. Check out the comment types of makeup for your skin.

Primer

This is the first thing you should put on your face before applying the rest of your makeup. It helps to prepare your skin by reducing pores.

Primers reduce the appearance of lines and pores and create a blank canvas on your face that the rest of your makeup will glide onto smoothly.

Foundation

Foundation comes in all types of forms: liquid, powder, cream, or stick form. This is the base of your makeup — the foundation! You’ll blend in the neutral color that best matches your natural skin tone to get an even and smooth skin tone.

Depending on the type of coverage you need and want, you can put on a thin or thick layer of foundation.

Concealer

Concealer should always be one shade lighter than your foundation. It’s applied after the foundation to help cover up any blemishes, dark circles, and discoloration. This product really helps to create that flawless look.

Rouge or Blush

This is the oldest makeup product in existence and is still an essential makeup item. It adds color to the cheekbones, a rosy pink or ‘rouge’ color, that gives a fresh and youthful look.

Common Forms of Makeup for Lips

Last, but certainly not least, is the common forms of makeup for your lips. This is always a lovely last touch that you can use to jazz up or tone down your overall look.

Lipstick and Lipgloss

Lipstick adds color to your lips. The most popular lip colors are reds, pinks, and neutral tones. However, these days bold lip colors, such as purple, are trending.

Lip gloss, on the other hand, is popular for nude makeup looks. It usually comes in liquid form and adds a glossy sheen to the lips. You can wear it alone, or put a coat of shine on top of your favorite lipstick.

Lip Liner

Lip liner is used to line the lips with a color to create a textured look with structure. If you want to give the illusion of having plump lips, lip liner is the thing for you. For this look, outline the lips just outside the natural lip line and then fill it in with lipstick.

Which Types of Makeup Are Your Favorite?

Do you have a stable makeup product that you’ll never leave home without? Or do you love experimenting with all sorts of types of makeup? There are some classic products that you should always have in your makeup kit as a foundation for any and every look.
