The “no makeup” look is very trendy right now. The heavy makeup pre-pandemic looks are behind us, and more people are opting for a more natural appearance.
But the “no makeup” look is one that takes delicate refining to achieve. With the right tricks and the perfect foundation base, you’ll enjoy a natural glow that exudes beauty.
Prime the Canvas
Skincare routines have been enjoying a moment in the sun over the past few years, and it’s essential for the “no makeup” look. Incorporating a skincare routine that accurately targets your specific concerns, whether you have dark spots, acne, wrinkles, and more, primes your face to achieve a natural “no makeup” look.
Every person’s skincare routine will look different, and it can take some trial and error to perfect. But once you do, it’s absolutely worth it! If you’re unsure how to start a skincare routine that works for you, visit a dermatologist or esthetician to get you on the right track.
As you prepare to apply your foundation, two products will help prime your face: moisturizer and facial primer. Your moisturizer will smooth and hydrate your skin, while your primer helps extend the longevity and effectiveness of your foundation. Similarly to picking out the correct foundation, you’ll want to find a moisturizer and a primer that works well with your skin type.
Choose Products With Light Coverage
Light coverage is the way to go to help you achieve a perfect “no makeup” look. A lighter coverage offers a finish that helps hide some of your imperfections without looking like you’re wearing a lot of foundation. Tinted moisturizers work great for a “no makeup” look. Bonus points if you can find one with SPF.
You may have some areas you want to cover up that a light coverage foundation doesn’t fully achieve. In this case, add a lightweight concealer. Use it to cover up blemishes and dark circles to help smooth out your finish.
For both foundation and concealer, cream products are the way to go to keep your look natural. Cream products blend into the skin smoothly, while powder products can leave a finish.
Add a Touch of Glow
Our skin has a natural glow and a flush and can often blur after applying foundation and concealer. To keep a natural, dewy look, add some glow to your skin with a highlighter. Apply to your cheekbones, temples, and the bridge of your nose. Apply blush on the apples of your cheeks for a flushed appearance.
As with foundations and concealers, cream products are the way to go with highlighter and blush. If you only have – or prefer – powder products, you can apply the powder as usual and spray with a setting mist over it.
If you apply your foundation and concealer and find your face still has a glow and a flush, don’t feel compelled to add this step. Let your natural features shine through!
Apply Finishing Touches
Now that your face has a natural appearance, it’s time to add some finishing touches. Great additions to a “no makeup” look are brows, mascara, and lips. Add as many or as little as you choose.
Natural, fluffy brows are trending right now. To complete your “no makeup” look, you might not need any product at all. You can brush your brows up and shape them to appear fluffy. If you want, use a tinted brow gel to add a fuller brow.
Light mascara is a great option for making your eyes pop with a “no makeup” look. Brown mascara is a nice subtle addition to a natural look. But if you love your dark black mascara, go for it! Either way, you won’t need to apply a lot of the product. A few coacts will give your lashes some beautiful volume.
Finally, the lips! A simple gloss or balm can give your lips a little plump and shine to finish off your look. Clear gloss works well, or you can opt for a shade that closely matches the natural color of your lips.
