Guide Review – Review of Mary Kay Mineral Powder Foundation
After trying countless amounts of different mineral makeup lines, I was informed by a reader that Mary Kay also has mineral makeup. My mother-in-law loves Mary Kay products, but I had never tried them, so I decided to contact their corporate office and request a sample.
When I received the makeup, I was surprised to see how big the container was, compared to the selling price. You obviously get a pretty good amount of makeup for your buck with their minerals foundation. But size isn’t everything, so I had to test how well the minerals worked. I wasn’t very impressed with my initial test application. The powder seemed very light and, well, powdery. It was almost like applying a loose setting powder to my skin without a foundation underneath. This prompted me to grab the box and read the ingredients. The first two ingredients were talc and cornstarch, then further down the list, I found Propylparaben and no apparent SPF.
Even though the Mary Kay Mineral Powder Foundation had struck out with me on the initial application, I still did another application test later. The second application was equally as disappointing. There was not enough coverage to use it under the eyes or on blemishes, the powder was too “powdery” and left a cloud of minerals in the air, and my overall appearance looked more dry and unnatural instead of even and natural.
The bottom line is that I would use the Mary Kay Mineral Powder Foundation if I ran out of my other minerals, but as an everyday makeup it just doesn’t hold up. Perhaps it could be used as a good setting powder for a foundation, but other than that I wouldn’t waste my money.
