The “slime roots” hair color trend is a bright, neon-green dye job that originated in 2017. It has since become popular on Instagram and other social media platforms. In 2019, Demi Lovato joined Billie Eilish in sporting the trend. The Bleach London Super Cool Color Semi-Permanent Hair Color Cream, Slime Light, 5.07 oz, is a semi-permanent hair dye specifically designed for this look.

If you love playing up your roots as much as your tips, you’ll love the latest hair color trend: slime roots. And don’t let the name fool you because there is nothing gross about it.

The team behind the look is Bleach London, aka one of the coolest hair salons around and the ones behind countless enviable rainbow dye jobs. They’ve recently made us obsessed with leopard print hair, checkerboard hair, and other root-centric styles like rainbow roots. This time, they’ve taken a slimier approach thanks to hair colorist Tasha Spencer.

Allure reported that Bleach London recently did an Instagram Story, which showed the entire process of slime roots. If you missed out on it, don’t worry because Tasha also shared a preview photo of the look on Instagram.

While many visible roots focus on the parting line and have a sharp contrast with the rest of our strands, slime roots are different. In the Instagram story, we saw Tasha apply a hot pink dye to the top layers of the hair from the roots all of the way down to the ends. She then applied a bright green dye to the bottom layers.

The resulting look makes it appear like you just got a bucket slime dropped on your head…but way prettier than that sounds.

We’ve already seen all-over slime hair color, slime liner, and slime roots continue to prove that being slimy can be a very good thing.

Bleach London recently made us very excited when the salon teased its upcoming makeup line with the help of Lou Teasdale and Georgia May Jagger. Now, we have slime roots. What’s next? We don’t know, but we have no doubt that it will be something good.

What is the slime roots hair color trend?

The slime root hair color trend is a neon-green and magenta combination that has been popularized on Instagram. It has been worn by celebrities such as Demi Lovato and Billie Eilish. One must first bleach their hair to a light blonde shade to achieve this look before applying the semi-permanent dye.

How to do slime roots

To achieve the slime roots hair color trend, one must first bleach their hair to a light blonde shade. Then, they can dye their strands with a neon-green and magenta combination. For a more subtle look, one can opt for an ombre style that fades from electric yellow to neon slime.
