Ombre Hair: The Bad and the Beautiful
To ombre or not to ombre? That is the pressing question for female celebrities (what a hard life, right?) who are considering going for the popular dip-dyed hair trend. Of those who opt to take the color plunge, some come out victorious while others, well, just see for yourself as we present the good, the bad, and the questionable ombre styles of Hollywood’s leading ladies.
Selena Gomez
Bad or Beautiful? Sweetly beautiful.
It’s no surprise Justin Bieber’s on-and-off-again sweetheart was one of the first to try the ombre hair trend. Although it’s a bit hazy on where the light and dark hues meet, Selena Gomez pulls off the style adorably, thus successfully proving to her millions of fans (and copycat wannabes) that you don’t have to be too bold to stand out.
Tori Kelly
Bad or Beautiful? Beautiful –- no questions asked.
Most people will look at her roots and roll their eyes in despair, but the country songstress really pulls off this look with ease and charm. The fact she chose to go much lighter on the bottom than the usual ombre styling gives her a pretty, angelic glow.
Jennifer Lawrence
Bad or Beautiful? A bit of both
When it came to learning archery for her leading role in “The Hunger Games,” Jennifer Lawrence wowed us with her mad skills, but her adaption to the faded hairstyle is a whole different story. I’m not sure if it’s the messy, loose waves or the college-party-girl vibe her hair is giving off, but the young Hollywood starlet needs to tame her mane. On the bright side, the color is right on.
Katy Perry
Bad or Beautiful? Erm, this is a tough one.
Leave it to the eccentric singer to take the popular trend and make it completely her own. Yes, it does indeed combine the effect of the dark and light colors meeting –- in a less than subtle way -–, but her over bubbly personality and unique approach make this an unsuccessful attempt in the collection of “Most Questionable Katy Perry Hairstyles Ever.”
Jessica Alba
Bad or Beautiful? Beautiful to boot!
Three cheers for a celebrity who actually nails the trend! As per usual, hot celebrity mommy Jessica Alba debuts another rocking style with effortless ease and chicness. She does this by taking her signature honey brown locks and fusing them with a light soft golden color at the bottom, which perfectly balances out her fresh, polished look and an infectiously bright smile.
Olivia Wilde
Bad or Beautiful? Sophisticatedly beautiful
Just because her name has the word wild in it does not mean the eerily beautiful actress (and I mean that in the nicest way possible) is going to go overboard when it comes to trying a new trend. Case in point: the dark, but very shiny ombre hair Olivia Wilde debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival. It’s subtle and sophisticated without being a slave to trends.
Khloe Kardashian
Bad or Beautiful? Do I dare say beautiful?
Yes, we’re all tired of hearing about the Kardashian sisters, and they’re never-ending 15 minutes (going on 15 years) of fame. That said, for some reason, Khloe Kardashian is one sister we don’t object to hearing about, especially when she changes up her signature dark roots and sports a new, fun, and playful look. It’s perfect for her somewhat more grounded persona.
Rumer Willis
Bad or Beautiful? Bad
Not everyone can be a blonde and brunette at the same time. Not even celebrity children like Demi Moore’s and Bruce Willis’ offspring, Rumer Willis, who tried to prove she can have as much fun as a blonde and still be a smart brunette with her ombre hair creation. Unfortunately, the look fails and seems more like her roots grew out way too fast.
Shania Twain
Bad or Beautiful? “A” for effort
Making a triumphant return to the red carpet after a long time hiatus — the man we missed her! — Shania Twain again does no wrong in our eyes as she leads the girl power movement of inner beauty, her attempt at mixing a dark and light hair palette scores major style cred, even if we’re unable to mimic the same bouncing curls and million-dollar glow.
Ashley Tisdale
Bad or Beautiful? Beautiful
Surprising us all with her risque, all-grown-up overhaul, “Scary Movie 5” starlet Ashley Tisdale has no trouble changing from her plain, boring blonde hair to debut an updated and on-trend ombre hair color. We must say it suits the young Hollywood actress to a big cute ‘T’.
Sarah Jessica Parker
Bad or Beautiful? After embracing bad roots for most of her “SATC” career, Sarah Jessica Bradshaw is bordering on the beautiful.
Carrie Bradshaw irked us with the perennial root she sported in her “Sex and the City” days, but finally, years after the series ended, Sarah Jessica Parker is blurring the line between bad and beautiful. Gone is the harsh five o’clock root line in favor of a soft, golden tone that lightens to a sun-kissed end.
Jana Kramer
Bad or Beautiful? Beautiful and pretty
With the perfect girl-next-door persona and great fashion sense, actress and singer Jana Kramer complete her Country Music Awards red carpet look with a worthy-to-be-copied, semi-messy ombre updo. It blends perfectly with her bright and shiny gold sequin dress.
Katie Price
Bad or Beautiful? Do I even have to say?
You can thank Katie Price for ruining all the good childhood memories you ever had of playing with My Little Pony after witnessing this not-so-pretty super pink getup. Not unlike Katy Perry, the British Z-lister decided to go in a different color route with dark and light pink tones mixed together; however, we’re not sure what’s worst: her hair or costume? Guess we’ll leave it up to you to decide…
