If you want to make your own dry shampoo, these recipes will show you how to create it in easy steps.
I am a little obsessed with dry shampoo. As a newly-converted member of the “I Wash My Hair Once A Week” Club, but not an inductee of the “IDGAF About What Society Thinks” Club, I want my dirty hair to look decent even when it hasn’t been scrubbed in five days. Therefore, dry shampoo is one of the best options I have, so I have been gradually trying numerous brands in order to determine which is most efficient, most effective, and has the best scent. In January, I did a tutorial on how to use canned dry shampoo, but a recent visit to a very DIY-savvy friend’s house is making me wonder if I should just try making my own.
There are tons of recipes out there using different ingredients, measurements, and tools. Which one is best for you? You can take your pick from these great tutorials!
1. DIY Dry Shampoo
ModCloth isn’t just for cool clothes anymore! This easy dry shampoo recipe comes from everyone’s favorite vintage-inspired online retailer. The fact that it utilizes lavender totally won me over–it’s the most relaxing scent ever, which is exactly how I want to feel when I’m in such a hurry, I don’t have time to wash my hair.
2. Brush On Dry Shampoo
If you’re a fan of big fluffy brushes, this dry shampoo tutorial from Living Well Spending Less will show you yet another excellent use for them: applying dry shampoo!
3. Dry Shampoo Benefits
I love that this post by Brittany Blum tells you exactly why you should try using dry shampoo and what each ingredient is for. When you have that information, you can more easily determine what proportions of each make the most sense for you.
4. DIY Dry Shampoo For Light Or Dark Hair
Whether you have got dark hair or lighter locks, you can make the perfect dry shampoo for your specific hair using this easy tutorial from Free People (another clothing company we didn’t expect to see beauty recipes from). As for storage, try their trick of using old spice containers–brilliant!
5. Dry Shampoo + Body Spray
The recipe for this apparently smells awful, so Mara & The Outre recommends adding a snazzy Bath & Body Works fragrance mist to add a lovely scent to your DIY.
6. DIY Dry Shampoo
This easy recipe from InspireBeautyTips.com is the perfect way to get a wonderful dry shampoo product without dropping a lot of cash. Plus, they solve the trickiness of how to bottle it up yourself without spilling the powder all over the place.
7. Dry Shampoo In A Salt Shaker
I am not sure which I love more as dry shampoo storage: the spice container mentioned earlier or this salt shaker idea from GimmeSomeStyleBlog. Probably the salt shaker, because look how cute it is! And if you had fancy salt shakers…well, that would just be the loveliest thing to add to your vanity or bathroom sink.
8. Dry Shampoo For Dark Hair
If your hair is on the darker side, certain dry shampoos can make it look dull, powdery, and even a little bit dandruff-affected. This easy recipe from A Step In The Journey is simple and perfect for deep, dark hair!
9. Rosemary & Mint Dry Shampoo
Looking for a gift for your beauty-obsessed buddy? Oceans & Potions has got the perfect idea for you (and many more, if you check out the full post!). Make this fresh, beautifully-scented dry shampoo, then add a handwritten label to give it a personal touch. Now isn’t that better than any store-bought gift?
10. Dry Shampoo Spray
Prefer spritzing your hair products over rubbing them in or powdering them on? Try this simple, 3-ingredient recipe from Hookable Designs!
11. Blonde & Brunette Dry Shampoos
There are several recipes that apply to specific hair shades, so definitely try these and see if they work best for you! This wonderful tutorial from Brit+Co. is easy to follow, has great photos, and shows you exactly how to apply it for maximum benefits.
12. DIY Spray-On Dry Shampoo
For some reason, I love the milky appearance of Beautylish’s dry shampoo recipe so much. And with a nice-looking bottle, this could be just like any high-end product on the market. Did I mention it uses lavender? It does, and like I said earlier, that is wonderfully relaxing when you are in a rush.
13. Lighter Vs. Darker Dry Shampoo
If you were wondering which exact ingredients make the most sense for lighter versus darker hair, this helpful graphic has got you covered!
14. Arrowroot Dry Shampoo
If you’re wondering how to make dry shampoo in either a spray or a powder, this thorough post by Mommypotamus has tons of info on each. It tells you why shampooing less is better, how to figure out which formula works for you, and how to apply them correctly.
15. Dry Shampoo–For Your Dog!
