Shopping Guide: Waterproof Shoes

Let me start this off by saying that I absolutely detest rain boots. I have always hated how they look on anyone and I think they are a crime against fashion, regardless of how practical they are. I finally found a pair of waterproof rain boots that I can wear without gritting my teeth, and it’s only because they are in the shape of boots I already own. Just say no to goulashes.

That being said, it’s kind of hard to find rain boots that actually compliment your outfit. Your best bet is to find the most unoffensive pair of Chelsea boots that are rubber and call it a day. Unfortunately, a lot of times, you don’t want to have to stash an extra pair of shoes in your bag to change into, which is wear waterproof shoes come in. While rain boots are there to protect your feet and lower legs from getting wet, these waterproof shoes are more about preserving your fashion sense than keeping your shins dry.

Here are a few fashionable waterproof shoes that you need to check out ASAP.

‘Swazey’ Waterproof Cap Toe Bootie (Nordstrom, $139.95)

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m skeptical about mules and clogs, but they’re everywhere lately and I have a feeling they’re here to stay. These will help you transition the slip-on style into the grosser, wetter days of the end of the year.

‘Skymra Mid SL GTX’ Waterproof Gore-Tex® Sneaker (Nordstrom, $169.95)

A pair of suede booties that are treated to be waterproof will always, ALWAYS be your best friend and this olive green is pretty fantastic. It’s also a really great heel height for sloshing through the rain.

Okay, so you might not want to actually wear pumps in the rain, but if it’s just kind of drizzling and you don’t want to look like a weirdo with big-ass boots on, these are perfect.

Cougar Jane Riding Boot (DSW, $159.95)

These are my dream rain shoes. Just look at them. They also come in a ridiculous amount of color pairs but these are the only waterproof ones.

Aquatalia Lilli Bootie (DWS, $299.95)

Aquatalia Lilli Bootie

I find it kind of strange that a lot of the waterproof shoes I’ve found are suede but who am I to judge? These are a great option to replace those worn-out Chelsea boots, even when it’s not raining.

Hunter Rain Booties – Original High Heel (Bloomingdale’s, $195)

Hunter Rain Booties

I had to include a pair of Hunter boots in here because no list would be complete without them. These are made of the classic rubber but boast a high heel and ’90s inspire traction. I’m not mad at it.
