Clarks Desert Boots have been around since the 1950s and were originally modeled after boots officers in the 8th Army had worn in Cairo. Since their launch decades ago, Clarks has become a household name and those simple boots are considered hip and stylish among fashionable men and women alike.

How to Wear Clarks Desert Boots

It’s hard to argue with a classic style that has stood the test of time. These shoes can easily be dressed up or down: they look great whether you’re wearing khakis or jeans and are appropriate to wear to your office job and on that first date. While suede can be a bear to keep up, a little weekly maintenance will keep these boots looking sharp. These shoes have not changed over the past sixty years, which is a testament to their quality and timeless look.

Are Clarks Desert Boots Comfortable?

If you’re used to a shoe with a ton of support, these will feel a bit different. The fit falls somewhere between a flip-flop and a slipper right out of the box. A nice perk: there is no break-in period. I got them in the mail from Nordstrom, removed them from the box, and they were good to go. That being said, the more you wear them the more they feel like an extension of your foot due to their crepe sole. It’s a different feel from any other boot you’ll own.

The Price of Clarks Desert Boots

The boots range in price from $160 for storm leather and suede styles to $130. For a men’s boot that is as cool as these, you can’t beat that. It’s a great price for guys just out of college (or a little older) and who are looking to update their wardrobe on a budget.

Should You Buy Clarks Desert Boots?

If you’re looking for a boot with a lot of support or one you’re looking to wear in the elements then these are not for you. They’re great for kicking around and are much more durable than they feel, but you wouldn’t want to start a logging career in them.

The name itself “Desert Boots” highlights their one major flaw—they aren’t made for extremely rainy or damp weather. Not a problem if you live in a dry climate, but if you live in the Northeast or an area with a lot of precipitation, you’ll want to pick up a pair of L.L. Bean Boots to round out your footwear wardrobe.

This is a versatile boot that you can wear to work or out to dinner. They’re authentic, original, cool, and understated. It’s an added bonus that they will feel like they become part of your foot the more you wear them. They’re just that comfortable.

Clarks Desert boots are available online and at most major menswear retailers.
