Headbands aren’t just for schoolgirls. You should channel your inner Blair Waldorf and pop that hairband on your head.

When was the last time you wore a headband? Seventh grade? Sometime in the 2000′s when you were very into boho? When the first season of Gossip Girl aired, and you thought Blair Waldorf was the best? It may be too long for you to even remember. But it is time to bring the hair accessory back into your look. No, that floral crown you wear to festivals doesn’t really count, but it is a good start.

Jemima Kirke and Lily Rose Depp attended the Chanel Couture show and decorated their heads with whimsical hair bands. They were unique, dressy, and much more interesting than a statement necklace or pair of earrings. Necklaces, earrings, and rings are expected, but a decorated headband isn’t unless you are royalty.

Headbands are a surprising but pretty touch. They are also great from a practical, lazy girl’s point of view. If your roots are looking a little greasy and you don’t have time to shampoo and condition your hair, pop on a cute headband, and no one is going to be looking at your second (or third) day hair. They also help to camouflage bad hair days, and they aren’t as obvious as wearing a hat indoors to conceal your weird bang trim.

One reason people seem to forget about headbands is that they think they are too juvenile or only for those who cannot legally drive a car. Stop trying to use that as a reason. First of all, schoolgirl hairstyles were popular at the womenswear Spring/Summer 2015 shows with barrettes, bobby pins, and the occasional set of pigtails. Secondly, headbands aren’t exclusively a schoolgirl look. Blair Waldorf continued to wear her headbands after she graduated from Constance Billard. And remember the forehead band craze? That was with proper adult celebs. Plus, why should we be putting an age limit on fashion or beauty looks? You should be able to wear a style no matter what your age.

What are your thoughts on headbands? Did you still think Lupita Nyong’o’s skinny headband at the 2014 Oscars was one of the best beauty looks? Do you love a thick black headband because it makes you feel a bit like Brigitte Bardot? If you’re still undecided about adding hair accessories into your look, just know that a headband is a hair different from those cat barrettes you used to be obsessed with. You could love a headband even if Serena van der Woodsen was your favorite Gossip Girl Character.
